Organic Holy Basil Tea
Holy basil is an Indian variety of basil that has been cultivated for several thousand years. It is characterized by a bold and peppery flavor.
This basil variety is a native plant of the Indian Subcontinent. It is a short, many-leaved shrub characterized by dark green or purple leaves, which bear the strong and familiar scent of basil. The name references its significance in Indian culture, where the herb is regarded as the sacred incarnation of a Hindu goddess. Known to Indians as Tulsi, holy basil has been cultivated for more than 3000 years, though Indians never use the herb in cooking because of its sacred nature. In Thailand, however, they make frequent use of this herb, and it is regularly added to meat or seafood dishes. Care must be taken not to confuse this variety with Thai basil, a related but separate variety.
Holy basil tea is known for being aromatic and flavorful. While many types of basil have a rather sweet flavor, holy basil is bold, dynamic, sharp and somewhat peppery. While tea drinkers may be thrilled by the potent flavor, holy basil tea can also offer potent nutrients. Packed with vitamin A, vitamin E, and folic acid, and rich in calcium, iron and selenium, holy basil tea can provide a natural boost of important micronutrients. This tea is also a natural source of antioxidants. Partake in a fresh cup of holy basil tea and discover its potency for yourself.
